Then see this appalling article on the B-52 by someone utterly ignorant of aircraft.  By the way “the even faster B-70 (spewed highly toxic exhaust)” program was cancelled in the early 1960s because very high speed and altitude were no longer defences against Soviet surface-to-air missiles; but the Gray Lady is insidiously green-obsessed.
