Mark Collins- Canadian Columnist Gets Facts About Anti-ISIS Fight Wrong

No surprise–a letter of mine to the Toronto Star, not published:

No Danish or Belgian F-16s attacking ISIS

Dear Editor,

Re: Canada’s exclusion from ISIS war council a welcome snub, Opinion Jan. 21

Thomas Walkom writes that “So perhaps Canada was snubbed. Yet if it was, so were others. Denmark, which has sent seven fighter jets to the war…was not invited.  Neither was Belgium, which has committed six combat jets to the Iraq portion of the war.”

Not so.  Both the Danes and Belgians withdrew their F-16s from the fight against ISIS some time ago–though Denmark is considering sending them back (together with special forces which may attack ISIS alongside US special forces).

So it would seem that in fact there is a considerable similarity between our absence and that of Denmark and Belgium.  Pity that Mr Walkom did not do a better job of checking his facts.

Relevant to invitations, note Aussies and Italians at end:
