Mark Collins – 1830 May 16: Canadian National Defence Minister to Face House for Hours (with video)

CPAC will have live video (see here: “1830 House of Commons”)–could be interesting if opposition asks substantive rather than tendentious questions:

Sajjan to face grilling over defence main estimates in House

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan will face a grilling tonight [May 16] on the main estimates for his department [see, note links at end: “Canadian Department of National Defence: 2016-17 Main Estimates“].

The Conservative opposition gave notice on May 2 that they would be calling Sajjan and Finance Minister Bill Morneau to committees of the whole to answer questions about their department’s fiscal plans.

Liberal House Leader Dominic Leblanc announced on Thursday that Sajjan’s appearance would happen today.

The opposition parties will get four hours to question Sajjan about his department’s fiscal priorities…

[Conservative defence critic James] Bezan said in an email to iPolitics that the party is concerned about the government’s decision to punt funding for major procurements until 2022, in its last budget [see: “Canadian Budget: F-35 After All? Surface Combatant Never Never Land“; “David Perry – Our Broken Military Procurement System“]…

Will anyone dare question the insanely expensive policy of building ships in Canada? Which will stunt defence procurements for all services if present plans are carried through. NO WAY ANYONE WILL!

  1. My, intemperate, immediate responses to the “debate–not worthy of a serious legislature. More, if misguided, substance from NDP (missile defence madness! see https://cgai3ds.wordpress.com/2016/04/21/mark-collins-time-to-say-yes-to-a-missile-shield-canada/ ) than Conservatives who called for the session:

And as topic was Main Estimates why no effort to relate spending to missions, capabilities in future?
